Nurturing Wāhine Fund has received a 100 sneaker donation from the Seattle Seahawks Blitz’s Kicks 4 Kids campaign! We will be distributing the new Nike sneakers alongside Blitz, the Seahawks mascot, at Shriner’s Children’s Hawai’i on Friday, 1/21/25.

NWF will also be supporting TWO all-girls flag football camps at Castle and Pearl City High School. We expect more than 300 girls to participate in the sports clinic. #sportsequity !

Private Learning Tour of Hawai’i Plantation Village on Friday, January 10th at 11 AM. We'll explore its history from a women's perspective and uncover how it informs and connects to our present-day experiences.

Very Demanding. Very Minimizing: Imposter Syndrome in Nonprofits

In her thought-provoking article, Esther Saehyun Lee boldly challenges the status quo of the nonprofit sector, writing, "I am an imposter. I don’t belong in the nonprofit sector—as it is. I refuse to subscribe to the values of white saviorism, colonialism, donor worship, poverty tourism, and the self-congratulatory attitude of 'doing good.'" In this discussion, Esther, Vu Le (author of the popular Nonprofit AF blog), and Aleeka Morgan (director of Nurturing Wāhine Fund) will explore key themes from Lee's article and delve into the experience of imposter syndrome within the nonprofit space. Join us for an engaging conversation on how these dynamics shape our sense of belonging and influence the sector.

Film screening and Discussion at Women's Community Correctional Center:

At NWF, our mission is to ensure everyone is included in our movement to end systemic adversity. That’s why we are hosting events at prisons.

Kemba Smith was sentenced to 24.5 years in prison without the possibility of parole, despite being a first-time, nonviolent offender who was seven months pregnant. A movie was made about her life. We’re grateful she will speak with the women at WCCC, an all-female prison, about rebuilding their lives.

Nurturing Wāhine Fund is featured on the NASA website for The White House National Space Council "Find Your Place in Space" events!

Join us for an inspiring afternoon of exploration, empowerment, and education with the Hawaii Air National Guard 204th Airlift Squadron military personnel. Female students interested in STEM and astronaut recovery operations will receive a briefing on the execution of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program (CCP) Human Space Flight Support (HSFS) mission, visit a space capsule recovery vehicle rigged for airdrop, and tour a USAF C-17 Globemaster III.

With the generous support of the National Football League (NFL), we are set to distribute more than 160 pairs of sneakers to young girls in Maui this upcoming January. Following the shoe distribution, we will read inspiring stories of resilience and courage to the local community. Our community partners include Honolulu Sea Hawkers, Pacific Birth Collective, Ribbons of Aloha, and Hawaii Literacy.

NWF will have the pleasure of hosting a welcome dinner for Wassan Al-Khudhairi, co-curator of Hawaiʻi Triennial 2025. Hawaiʻi Triennial is the state’s largest exhibition of contemporary art from Hawaiʻi, the Pacific, and beyond.
